Evelyn Resh CSC, CNM, MPH, MSN

After earning my nursing degree, I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Mount Holyoke College.  Subsequently, I earned my certification in Midwifery from Baystate Midwifery Education Program, a Master of Public Health degree at Boston University, and a Master of Nursing at American International College.  While practicing as a midwife I obtained additional education in the field of Human Sexuality and became certified as a Sexuality Counselor. My practice is deeply influenced and enhanced by my diverse educational background and by my comprehensive knowledge of medicine, human sexuality, and women’s health issues.

I make every effort to consider the whole person in temperament, knowledge about sex, overall health, values, and life-style choices when considering their sexuality and goals for sexual satisfaction. My primary goal is to help individuals and couples evolve with their sexuality across their life-span in an effort to maximize sexual confidence and satisfaction.

My clinical practice style is warm, highly personalized, integrative in nature, and solution-focused

What Makes Me Different From a Sex Therapist?

Not all sexual problems are a result of problems with a relationship. Determining this can be complex, particularly when an individual member of a couple is experiencing medical problems and/or taking medications.  My medical education and clinical experience distinguishes me from my mental health colleagues in terms of my diagnostic skills. I am trained to make medical diagnoses and assess overall health status and its impact on bodily functions, including sexual activity.  I am also able to prescribe medications if needed to facilitate sexual activity.

I am a solution-focused practitioner. Generally, this means that I work with clients on an intermittent or short-term basis. My counseling style focuses on clarification of goals and development of a realistic plan for achieving them. Through comprehensive assessment, education, and guidance, many people seeking greater sexual satisfaction will be successful with this model of care.  Consultation with other members in your health care team (current and former) may be helpful and necessary and in the best interest of comprehensive care. I may also refer you to other specialists such as Physical Therapists, Urologists, or Gynecologists.

I do not do intensive, long-term psychotherapy or work with people whose trauma background is severely impacting their sexual function. Should I find this is needed I will refer out to my associate, Robin Rivinus PNP, CNM, or to sex therapy colleagues in the area.
